Federal Minister for
Information and Broadcasting,
Mr. Qamar Zaman Kaira,
was born on January 5,
1960 in the district of
Gujrat, Pakistan. He obtained
his early education from
his home town and got
Master’s degree
in Philosophy from the
University of the Punjab,
Lahore.
Starting off as a vocal
and prominent student
leader in 1970, he was
voted in as president
of the students’
union at the Federal Government
College, Gujrat. Later,
he was to be known as
one who raised his voice
for freedom of speech
and democracy during the
military government in
the country. Due to his
work for welfare of the
people of his constituency,
he was elected Nazim of
the Union Council Gujrat.
In 2002, he was elected
Member National Assembly.
From the beginning of
his political career he
has worked for the Pakistan
People Party. While in
the Parliament he became
member of the Public Accounts
Committee and also the
Chairman of Standing Committee
for SAFRON.
Mr. Qamar Zaman has
visited India, Norway,
Denmark, Finland, France,
United States and United
Kingdom to attend conferences
and seminars. He is married
and has two sons and a
daughter. His hobbies
include reading. Areas
of his interest in the
legislature include education,
finance, and communication.
